Got lots of junk mail after answering a survey on Yahoo for a Red Lobster gift certificate. Never got the gift

I am getting more than 1400 pieces of unwanted mail each week after I answered the survey about 3 months ago, and it is constantly increasing. It was going into my bulk folder, but now I am finding it increasing in my regular mail. Do I have to get another Email address? I also never received the Red Lobster gift certificate promised originally from the Yahoo home page. I thought it was OK if it was on Yahoo.

Actually, do NOT click unsubscribe to try to unsubscribe yourself from any spam mailing lists, or reply to ANY of these emails AT ALL. By "unsubscribing" and replying you are merely confirming your presence to the spammer people, and that in turn will make your email address EVEN MORE valuable to them because they know there's a live person at the other end.

Just because it's on Yahoo doesn't necessarily means it's okay. It just decreases the chances of it being crap. It could still contain spam.

What you can try to do is see if you can raise the security level in your email account, I have mine set to MAXIMUM, so only people who are in my contact list can get through the filters, EvERYTHiNG ELSE gets blocked. The only draw back is that you have to physically add a person's email address to your contact list first or they won't be able to get through. if you merely let yahoo decide what to filter or not, it will only filter what it thinks is spam, newer and clever spams always find ways to go around it's filter logic.

Best thing to do is to keep this ruined email address for future "survey"s or "signup"s if you have to, and create a new address for personal use with your friends.
