I've done it a few times, good sandwich. But now I've got $80 in gift cards to use for hamburgers!

Yeah, it's a good deal financially ONLY IF you eat there normally and you remember to use the gift cards.

The alternative would be to give the cards as gifts to people you know that eat there.

You are getting a free sandwich for purchasing $20 worth of food. Basically you are using a "punch card" backwards. Normally you have to spend the money BEFORE you get the free item, this way you get the free item first and later spend the money, essentially.
